Middle Way Acupuncture Institute
Located in the serene Skagit Valley, just 50 miles north of Seattle in Mount Vernon, Middle Way Acupuncture Institute (MWAI) offers a comprehensive educational experience rooted in Classical Chinese medicine and Five Element Theory that promotes balance and harmony with nature.
Our accredited Acupuncture Program begins with an experiential study of the natural world, deepening students’ understanding of seasonal cycles, elemental forces, and the rhythms of health and healing. Our Certificate of Chinese Herbal Medicine Program begins with a study of Chinese herbal formulas paired with appropriate Classical texts, strengthening students’ diagnostic skillset, reinforcing their understanding of Chinese medical theories and enhancing their capacity to provide care.
Curriculum for both programs blends hands-on learning, clinical training, and holistic healing principles, effectively preparing students for national certification and licensure. MWAI’s unique approach to learning is centered around modular weekends with a cohort-focused group learning atmosphere, allowing students to cultivate a strong and lasting network from the very beginning of their education.
Our Campus & Facilities
Middle Way moved to a beautiful new campus in August 2024. This new facility includes four well-equipped treatment rooms, a dedicated conference room for clinic meetings, a separate herbal apothecary, two classrooms, a lending library, and a spacious kitchen. Conveniently located just over the bridge on the west side of town, we are within easy walking distance of the Co-op and downtown Mount Vernon.
We follow an apprenticeship model emphasizing small class sizes, maintaining a student-to-teacher ratio of 4:1 to 14:1, and ensuring students can easily access faculty. All necessary training aids and clinical supplies, including needles and moxa, are available on campus. Our lending library has two computers with high-speed internet, and campus-wide Wi-Fi is accessible for students with their own devices.
