Building Expertise in Classical & Modern Acupuncture

MWAI offers an immersive three-year program comprising 36 monthly sessions, organized into weekend intensives held from Thursdays to Sundays.

The program blends classical teachings, Five Element leanings, and modern medical insights, providing both foundational knowledge and hands-on clinical training to prepare students for licensure and real-world success in acupuncture and integrative medicine.

A Nature-Based Approach to Healing and Learning

Rooted in the belief that health and medicine are deeply connected to nature, our curriculum integrates Five Element Theory and seasonal cycles, offering students a deep, experiential understanding of balance, harmony, and the body’s relationship to the natural world. From the very beginning, students cultivate self-awareness and mindfulness through Qi Gong practice, strengthening their connection to the medicine they are studying.

Clinical Training: Hands-On Learning from Day One

Unlike many acupuncture programs that delay hands-on clinical experience, MWAI’s curriculum ensures students begin clinical observation immediately and progress to direct patient care by their fifth semester, gaining over 660 hours of clinical experience by the end of the program.

StageHands-On Training Milestones
Year 1Students gather crucial experience observing practitioners in both the MWAI teaching clinic and with approved practitioners of their choosing.
Year 2The Clinical Assist role begins with students supporting senior interns in the MWAI teaching clinic, cultivating their patient handling and diagnostic skills.
Year 3Students take on the role of Primary in the MWAI teaching clinic, where they conduct patient intakes directly and treat patients independently under faculty supervision.

MWAI students graduate with clinical experience beyond licensure requirements, ensuring they are well-prepared for real-world practice.

“The faculty at Middle Way offered me a wide range of acupuncture techniques, diverse treatment strategies, and tools needed to begin a practice of working with and healing people. As a result of my education, I was able to start my own acupuncture business and feel confident that I was going to give my clients safe and effective treatments.”

Combine the MAc and CCHM Programs for a Broader Practice

The courses are designed so that each program complements the other: MAc students complete their foundational and diagnostic studies before starting the herbal program. Additionally, the final semester of the herbal program focuses mainly on clinical practice. This arrangement allows recent MAc graduates to continue practicing medicine while preparing for their board exams.
