Q: How do the clinical hours fit into the programs?

MAc students need 660 hours of clinic to graduate. 160 of those hours are Observation . These start right when you begin the program, averaging about 27 hours per semester. 120 of them can be completed at clinics near where you live, and 40 must be completed at the MWAI's teaching clinic. The remaining 500 hours are completed by the student in the MWAI teaching clinic . They are divided between Assist hours, Primary hours and Community Clinic . You can begin completing your Assist hours in your 4th semester. Clinical hours are completed outside of your regular class weekends. CCHM students need 210 hours of clinic to graduate. All of these hours are built-in to the monthly modules , so nothing needs to be scheduled outside of the monthly class meeting. Clinic settings range from Clinical Theatre, Clinical Internship and Grand Rounds.

What does it mean when you say your program is Five Element and Classically Inspired?

Chinese medicine offers insights based on ancient observations of the interactions between human beings and nature. It categorizes these observations into a system of correspondences that are named for each of the Five Elements, each of which provides details into subtle ways of being that can bring about harmony and ease. These insights were originally recorded in the form of prose, some of which were written over two thousand years ago. These are what we refer to now as 'the Classics' and they provide the basis for the study of Chinese medical theory.

MAc students engage in learning these theories in their very first module. They also take part in self-reflection and self-cultivation techniques that are derived from these Classical theories. The techniques are steeped in the observation of nature and the Five Elements and are refined throughout the program. Half of the first semester is spent exploring the world of health through the lens of each of the Five Elements, and future classes expose students to the various Five Element (5E) approaches to treatment. CCHM students go even deeper into the Classics with their herbal studies, pairing the therapeutic concepts of the various texts with the categorical study of Chinese herbal formulas, single herbs and diagnostic paradigms.

What is the monthly schedule for classes?

Each of our MAc and CCHM programs have class once a month, from Thursday - Sunday.

Classes start each morning at 9:00am and finish at 6:00pm.

There is a one hour lunch break each day.
