About

Skagit Valley

Middle Way Acupuncture Institute is located in Washington state midway between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. in the heart of the beautiful Skagit Valley in downtown Mount Vernon just a short walk’s distance from the mighty Skagit River, as well as easy driving distance to great hiking in the famed North Cascades mountain range.

The Acupuncture program at Middle Way Acupuncture Institute has evolved from its beginning as an apprenticeship program for adults who were looking to make a transition to a new profession. It has grown into a three-year program set up in 36 monthly sessions, which take place over the course of three to four-day weekend-intensives. A flexible clinical component is added to the third year of study. The entire program is divided into six half-year semesters.

Our Chinese Herbal Medicine Certificate program continues in our tradition of Weekend-based Intensives. It takes place over the course of 24 months, meeting 4 days each month to satisfy both didactic classes and clinical internship hours. The Herbal Studies Program is divided into four half-year semesters.

In keeping with the ancient traditions of how Eastern Medicine was originally taught, Middle Way Acupuncture Institute offers a nature-based program. Initially, training is geared toward the study of the natural world through the changing seasons in order that an experiential understanding of the elements as a cyclical process based on balance and harmony can be developed. This understanding, then, becomes the foundation from which the study of acupuncture grows.

Our unique format allows us to teach students from all over the United States. The first student from the east coast to participate in the program said, “I visited 10 or so acupuncture programs over several years from the east coast to the west coast. I chose to attend Middle Way Acupuncture Institute because of the philosophy and the faculty of this school…It is an environment that I could feel comfortable in as a novice in acupuncture, but at the same time my lifetime of experience is respected. I felt no discrimination or judgment in spite of the fact that I was 59 when I applied to the school.”

Another student—a graduate from Centralia—said of the program, “The school provided a well-rounded education that was formatted in such a way that I could continue to work while going to school. I am grateful that the program was so affordable and I am now practicing debt-free.”

Because of our small size, we are able to accommodate individual needs and get to know each student personally. We look forward to hearing from you.
